Winona Laura Horowitz, professionally referred to in the media as Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her Winona in honor of her home town. Michel Horowitz was her father and Cynthia Palmer, his mother, were both authors as well as editors. Ryder, who considers herself Jewish and descends from Ryder's Jewish father.
